Cork Kerry Community Healthcare have briefed local representatives on their plans for mental health services for East Cork and Midleton.
The group will provide a new 24-hour 10-bed rehab residential unit in Midleton with a focus on supporting people to return to their homes and the Owenacurra site will be among the locations considered for the unit.
A least one community unit with around the clock staffing will be set up for three to four residents in Midleton and some of the remaining residents at Owenacurra may move to the unit if it suits their needs and they want to move there.
Cork Kerry Community Healthcare say the day service has also reopened and they are examining the best location for a permanent service.
The proposed services will be supported by a new expert rehab team which will be led by a consultant.
The email seen by RedFM News says CKCH understands that moving to a new home will be difficult for the remaining Owenacurra residents and they regret that it is not possible or safe to refurbish the existing building on the grounds of Midleton Community Hospital which is over 40 years old.
Plans to rebuild, refurbish or rebuild a number of services including St Stephen's in Glanmire, Carrig Mor in Shanakiel, the acute unit at the Mercy Hospital and the St Catherine's facility at St. Finbarr's in Douglas have also been announced.
