The owner of a tanning shop in the city believes that doing sun beds in moderation isn’t harmful for the skin.

New research from South Infirmary Victoria Hospital and UCC found that around 50% of people use sun beds even though they know the dangers of them.

The Cork based doctors are calling on Irish people to limit sun exposure and use SPF to decrease the chance of getting skin cancer.

Speaking to RedFM News Tomasz Wendorf who owns Sun Studio Tan and Nail Clinic on Pope’s Quay says sun beds have become more popular in the last 10 years:

"It started a few years ago, and its grown over the last 8-10 years. Why is it popular? Because it's much easier to get the colour and if you do it properly it's not as dangerous as the doctos say."
