The Pandemic Unemployment Payment won't be paid out on Tuesday.
Instead, roughly forty-five thousand people will receive the ordinary jobseeker's benefit.
This week marks the end of the PUP payment, after first being introduced in March 2020.
Dr Laura Bambrick of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, explains why it was extended past the initial twelve-week period.
"Back in March 2020 We didn't know how long we would need to be in lockdown for, when lockdown was needed for longer than the initial 12 weeks, PUP was extended, and had has been pushed out, extended on five, six different occasions of circumstances changed, so did the PUP to respond to it."
