Parents at a school near Carr’s Hill say they’re frustrated that the opening of a safe cycle lane and pedestrian path has once again been delayed.

Cork City Council says the holdup is due to a delay in fitting temporary lighting for dark mornings.

Parents who want to walk or cycle to Douglas Rochestown Educate Together National School say they have to take an extremely dangerous narrow path on Carr’s Hill to get to the school gates.

Speaking to RedFM News, Ciarán Hegarty who walks his children to school says the safe route needs to open before someone gets hurt:

"If we want to walk to school we have to walk along a very narrow footpath, along a very busy road. There's construction traffic, there are cars coming down too fast, too close to the edge. I'm concerned that if a child gets too close to the edge, or if a car gets too close to the edge that someone could get hurt or killed."
