Parents in Cork are now waiting 30 months for autism assessments for their children.

A meeting is being held in Farranree this evening to raise concerns about the long wait for assessments as well as lack of therapies and school places.

Parents say early intervention is critical and waiting over 2 years for an autism assessment can be incredibly damaging for a child's development.

Speaking to RedFM News, Karen McGrath from Together We Are Strong says not being able to get the right services her child is heart-breaking:

"Until you're in that situation, you're in a deep dark hole and there's no way to get out, and it's not because our children have additional needs, it's just because they're not the supports or services they need. So you feel like as a family that you're a failure because you're not able to provide for your family, it's heartbreaking."
