The parents of the children who attend CoAction's Children's Disability Centre in Bantry say they are being "ignored" and will hold a daily protest outside the centre to highlight their concerns.

The CoAction Parents Alliance staged a protest march in Bantry on Saturday after they were told that the purpose-built centre on Slip Road in the town would be converted into a residential unit for adults.

Around 180 West Cork children attend the centre.

Parents protested outside this morning holding up banners saying “Our Children Deserve Better” and “Hands Off Our Property.”

Conor Cronin’s 10 year old son attends the centre and he told RedFM News why parents are so angry about the move:

"It's a child-friendly, safe building. It was built through hand earned fundraising by the community to the tune of €1.4 million. It's totally built with children in mind in terms of your gym, your playground, sensory rooms, play areas, assessment rooms, quiet rooms, relaxation rooms, and we don't feel we will get the same specification of a building or services if we are amalgamated in with the adult services."

RedFM News has contacted CoAction for a statement.
