Pay talks between unions for disability workers and Government officials are expected to take place ‘urgently’.

Concern has been expressed about the impact strike action could have on services in Cork such as SouthDoc, Co-Action Cork, Cobh Community Hospital and St Joseph's Foundation

SIPTU has accused the Government of failing to honour a pay deal agreed at the Workplace Relations Commission and is currently balloting members on strike action

Disability Minister Norma Foley has called for talks to resume at the WRC and ensure a ‘fair and appropriate’ pay system is put in place for workers.

"I think there is a shared objective from everybody here - those that work in the sector want to do just that, they want to do the work and deliver the service, andwant to ensure, assaid via the WRC, that they are suitably and appropriately recompensed for that. So I'm not envisaging any other strategy at this point in time other than the strategy that will ensure everybody is around the table"
