The Road Safety Authority says it's due to problems recruiting staff and an increase in new car sales.
The next available date in Little Island for an NCT is in late December, while in Youghal, people may have to wait until the fourth of January.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner they're mindful of the delays and are asking drivers to provide proof of a scheduled test if their disc is out of date.
