People living near good public transport could soon only be allowed only one parking space per household or none at all.

The Department of Housing is considering the measure in an attempt to boost housing supply.

It's being considered for new developments in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.

But Professor in Transportation at Trinity College, Brian Caulfield, says it all depends on your definition of good public transport:

"The key thing that in the article and the times is that this is for new developments. It's not existing developments, but everybody is right you know we need to have the public transport put in place first of all and that definition of accessibility, what is it? You know how many bus services per hour is acceptable in different parts of the country and that's something that we need a definition on."
