9 out of 10 skin cancers are caused by over-exposure to UV light.

The HSE is warning the public to protect their skin by using factor 30 or 50 this weekend, with high levels of UV rays around.

Dermatology Nurse Specialist, Celene Daly says the sun can damage children's skin:

"It's vitally important to protect children's skin because their skin cells are still immature, and we know sometimes it can take 20 or 30 years for skin cancer to actually develop. So sun-burning in childhood can actually result in skin cancer in later life. Children can also overheat very easily so it's very important to rehydrate them, it's vitally important to keep them in the shade between 11am and 2pm when the sun's at its strongest."
