The Peter McVerry Trust supported 290 people experiencing homelessness in Cork last year.
The national housing and homeless charity, which provides housing and resettlement services in Cork, published its annual report for 2021 last week.
Last year, the charity expanded its' footprint in the county and opened their Southern Regional Office on North Main Street in the city.
Staff at the Peter McVerry Trust provide housing support to local people impacted by homelessness and work closely with the City and County Councils to deliver new social housing homes across the region.
The charity delivered 22 new social homes from vacant or derelict property in Cork last year, including sites in Youghal and Carrigaline, and has already developed 65 units this year
This includes a recent redevelopment in Fairhill and upcoming projects in Charleville and Bantry. The charity is also progressing a number of multi-unit projects in the centre of Cork City, and plans to deliver 113 social homes for local people living in homelessness in 2023.
Last year, a number of social housing schemes were progressed across the Cork region with a major focus on securing and delivering more one-bedroom homes for single people impacted by homelessness.
The charity which has been working in Cork since 2019 has seen a yearly increase in the number of people they're supporting and are now active in 11 towns across the county.
