The one off deduction, which will not be means-tested, is in response to rapidly rising energy costs.
100 euro will be automatically deducted from one bill due in March or April of next year.
People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett says the plan is pathetic:
"Of course, we're not going to oppose government measures to give people €100. Any relief, you couldn't possibly oppose it but it is an absolute pathetic drop in the ocean compared to the energy and fuel price hikes that ordinary people are suffering, on which will disproportionately hurt the less well off and those who are in poorly insulated homes."
