There are plans for over 1,300 new homes at Cork’s Docklands in what would be the largest residential development to date in Cork city centre.
Leeside Quays Limited, a subsidiary of O’Callaghan Properties, are to seek permission for the project, which would comprise of 1,325 units in 10 buildings on the south docks.
Half of the units would be one bedroomed, with the buildings ranging in height from two floors up to 14 floors on the 32 acre Gouldings side between Monahan Road and Centre Park Road.
The proposed development makes provision for over 25,000 sq.m of public open space which will include hard and soft landscaping and public realm including play and exercise areas.
There are some mixed uses proposed at ground floor level across the development including cafes/ restaurants with outdoor seating areas, service retail units and a convenience retail store.
A planning application will be lodged with Cork City Council in the coming days.
Brian O’Callaghan, managing director of O’Callaghan Properties, said the project would establish large scale residential availability in one of the largest regeneration projects in Ireland.
“Cork City Docklands is recognised as having a key national economic development role. Thousands of jobs have already been created in Docklands and it is imperative that residential development runs parallel, otherwise investment momentum will be impacted. This project will be an exemplar for the 15 minute city concept, will be highly sustainable and be served by efficient public transport.
"It will be, in every sense, an example of the emerging new city and will make an even bigger statement on the attractiveness of Docklands as a location to work and live.”
