Polling stations for the 2024 General Election opened at 7am this morning and will close at 10pm tonight.
Turnout after an hour and a half of the polls opening in parts of Cork county show things are getting off to a slow start
The earliest reports from the Cork County Returning Officer at 8.30am show Cork North West with the highest turnout on 2.9%, followed by Cork South West on 2.7% and Cork East on 2.5%
430 thousand people in Cork are registered to vote across five constituencies
Chief Executive of the Electoral Commission, Art O'Leary, says there are rules in polling stations to protect privacy.
He also warns you can't take pictures in the station
"You can't take photographs in the polling station so your vote is private. Your vote is secret, so nobody is to know what way you voted so please don't take any pictures of yourself in the booth or photographs of your completed ballot paper, keep your phone in your pocket"
