Climate change and a lack of Government funding are being blamed for potholes across Cork.
The matter was raised again at a Council meeting with areas of North Cork such as Kildorrery, Shanballymore and Doneraile singled out as among the worst for potholes.
The Echo reports that senior officials say all the staff in the world won't fix Cork roads as they say the amount of rainfall in the last three months has had a major impact on the condition of the roads.
Rainfall in the last three months in the county is 60% of the overall yearly total and rainfall patterns have been changing bringing more heavy downpours.
Councillors say motorists in North Cork in particular have been raising the state of the roads with them with lorry drivers said to be swerving off the N73 Mitchelstown to Mallow road on the approach to Kildorrery to avoid the potholes.
Senior Council engineers say they are working closely with the Department of Transport on climate adaptation measures to protect roads and say more Government funding is also urgently needed.
