The Port of Cork say they are delighted to welcome the first cruise liner of the season to Cobh following a two year break due to Covid.
The Borealis docked at Cobh Cruise Terminal this morning and will be departing with around 2,000 passengers and crew this evening…
It’s the first of 90 cruise liners docking in Cobh, the city and Bantry this year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Chief Commercial Officer with the Port of Cork Conor Mowlds outlines what it means for the local economy:
"It's hugely exciting. We've spent the last two years looking forward to seeing these cruise ships come back and they make a big contribution to the local economy. If you really think about the money that's spent here by passengers, it's in the region of about €85 per passenger. And just for tourism in general, two years of a break from cruise ships is quite a difficult period to get through, but thankfully they're here today. And we're looking forward to a very exciting season."
