The Education Minister says significant progress has been made to secure the future of Cork Life Centre.
The Centre in Sunday's Well provides an 'alternative learning environment' to marginalised young people aged between 12 and 18.
Director of the Centre Don O'Leary warned in July that the school might be forced to close if teachers at the school were transferred to the Cork Education and Training Board.
Speaking during an Oireachtas meeting yesterday evening, Education Minister Norma Foley said progress has been made to keep the centre open.
"Shortly after I was appointed Minister last year I met with Don O'Leary.
"The outcomes of what is delivered in Cork Life was evident before this committee last December when students of the Centre spoke with passion and clarity about their experiences, and how th4e Centre has supported them thrtoughoutht their journey through education.
"Significant progress has been made regarding a package of supports that will substantially increase funding and teaching hours for the centre."
