Significant changes to the Dunkettle Interchange are expected to take effect this Sunday as part of the ongoing 215 million euro project.
Two new road-links should open to traffic at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning, once all preparatory works go to plan.
Drivers are being urged to pay close attention to road signs when two new link-roads open as part of the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Scheme.
Motorists heading northbound on the N40, through the Jack Lynch Tunnel, to the Dunkettle Interchange will need to keep left if they want to go eastwards onto the N25 towards Midleton and Little Island.
The other link road opening tomorrow will be for those coming southbound from the Fermoy direction on the M8.
There will be a slip-road to their left, taking them directly onto the N25 and into Little Island without having to use the existing interchange at all.
Speaking to RedFM News, a senior engineering inspector with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Jim McCarthy says people's patience will be worth it:
"These are going to be very positive changes. The first few days all will take a little bit of time to bed down takes a while for drivers to get used to them. We will be refining the lights with new traffic patterns so that we would just ask people for a little more patience. A
nd we appreciate the disruptive effects of these things but it is preterm pain for long term gain on this".
