Rail-based options are being considered as part of the development of the Cork to Limerick motorway.
An update of the project has been issued this afternoon which explores a rail option between Charleville and Limerick City.
Other proposals are connectivity with public transport projects between Blarney and Cork City, and a connection with the proposed Adare Bypass.
A public consultation event seeking the views of the public and other stakeholders is planned for later this year.
