Cork Penny Dinners say they're very grateful to the people of Cork for pulling out all the stops to ensure no one is left out in the cold with no food this Christmas.
As part of the RedFM "Donate A Dinner" campaign people have been asked to donate the price of a dinner for someone in need to the charity this Christmas.
Today Midland Tyre Services donated €10,000 to the charity as part of the campaign being run by Cork's RedFM in association with Insight Insurance.
The owner of the Laois based company, which also raised €10,000 for Movember, decided to match those funds and donate them to the Cork charity which he says is an organisation close to his heart as he lives here Leeside.
Speaking to RedFM News Noel Kingston of Midland Tyres says it's more important now than ever to dig deep for charities that are always there for people, "
It's a small talk of what we're doing, compared to what they're doing helping society," he said. "I just think it's important in times like this, that, you know, companies like Midland Tyres can help people like Caitriona and Movember."
Meanwhile Barbara McDonagh of Insight insurance says they're hoping to keep the Donate A Dinner campaign going for some time yet, "When Midland Tyres came on board, and I suppose their very generous donation of €10,000.... we felt inspired, so on top of the €1,000 donation that we put to kick start the campaign, we've actually decided on an ongoing basis for anybody who takes out a household or an annual policy with ourselves at Insight Insurance we're going to donate two dinners to Cork Penny Dinners in their name," she said.
Caitriona Twomey of Cork Penny Dinners says she's thrilled with the support for the people of Cork, "It's given us a great boost here, and the amount of money that they've raised is just incredible all together....that they thought about us and they made this effort and they've come down and we've had lovely time with them. It's brilliant."
