There are renewed calls for the Leaving Cert to be reformed, as it results in education being boiled down to a three-digit number.

The National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals says the exam format is "cruel" and "outdated".

The results of this year's exams are due to be released to 60-thousand students on Friday.

Director of the NAPD, Paul Crone, says time in school should be about more than just achieving points:

"We also need to move away from describing I suppose the Leaving Cert as a 3 digit number, the culmination of 14 years of study and people would say how did you do on the Leaving Cert? and people would say 'I got 600, I got 425 points.'"
