The rental crisis is getting worse.

Rents jumped by 10% in Cork city last year - rising to €2097 a month on average in Quarter Four.

A lack of supply continues to drive up prices, according to the latest Daft.ie report - which lists Limerick, Leitrim and Tipperary as the worst affected areas.

The report's author, economist Ronan Lyons, says the outlook is bleak,

"The fundamental reason rents are rising at the moment  is the scarcity of homes available to rent. If you look countrywide, there were about 2,300 homes available to rent at the start of

February, to put that number in context, even in the tight market of 2016 to 2018 there would have been about twice as many homes available to rent. Even a year ago, the number was significantly higher".
