A new report is to be commissioned by the Department of Transport on the health and safety risks posed by the wreck of the MV Alta in Ballycotton.
The ship ran aground in Ballycotton in 2020, during Storm Dennis after it had been drifting in the Atlantic for 16 months after it was abandoned by its crew in Bermuda during a storm.
The new report is also seeking to establish the stability and potential for further deterioration of the vessel and any risks associated with that.
The Irish Examiner reports that it's condition has deteriorated significantly and has split in two after being repeatedly battered during successive storm periods in recent months.
It's expected the new report will establish what may happen next with the MV Alta.
