The National Transport Authority unveiled plans to increase walking and cycling infrastructure as part of the Cork BusConnects Plan, however residents on the 400 metre Hyde Park Road say their road is not suitable for the plan.
Residents say the road, which begins across the street from the well-known Red House and ends at the edge of the former St Kevin’s Hospital site is too steep for cyclists and too narrow to be shared by pedestrians, cyclists and local traffic.
The owners of the 16 homes on the road also say the road is privately owned and has been maintained by them for the past 30 years.
The group have also said proposals for a new pedestrian bridge between the Shakey Bridge and Thomas Davis Bridge are unnecessary.
Speaking to RedFM News, John Keane from the Hyde Park Residents Group outlines one of their concerns:
In a statement to RedFM News, The NTA say residents feedback is being reviewed by the BusConnects Team and that revised proposals for their Sustainable Transport Corridors will be presented during the next round of public consultation in March and April.
