Residents living near University College Cork are calling for the creation of a National Strategy to deal with anti-social behaviour by students nationwide.
The Chairperson of the Magazine Road and Surrounding Areas Residents Association, Catherine Clancy says they feel a National Statregy is needed to tackle what they describe as, the ever increasing antisocial and criminal damage being caused by a minority of students right across the country.
Residents living near UCC say they are "hopeful" that the university will sanction those involved, following a meeting with the college president on Thursday.
Speaking to RedFM News Catherine Clancy says that any increase in anti-social or criminal behaviour needs t be stamped out:
"Well, we have seen, I suppose you know, around UCC and right across this country, where you have student accommodation in established residential areas close to universities, the increase in antisocial behaviour, and that was remarked upon as well when we met Superintendent Colm O'Sullivan. What we believe now, is that we need a National Strategy with the Department for Education, Department of Justice, and our Universities, on how we actually stamp out the increase of antisocial and criminal behaviour by young students attending third level education."
