Residents with discoloured tap water in the city say it's become a national issue.

Around 150 frustrated Uisce Eireann customers held a protest in the city over the weekend.

The water provider says it's working to resolve the issue by carrying out flushing works and replacing old cast iron pipes and expects a significant improvement this year.

Speaking to RedFM News, Bob Eager from Mount Farran Residents Association says the Government should be responsible for the city's water discolouration issue:

"We find a lot of politicians, Government parties are literally just stepping aside from this and leaving it in the hands of Uisce Eireann and saying, this is an Uisce Eireann issue. It's a national issue, and it's it's the state's responsibility. this is a semi state body supplying water to a city, it should have been act upon quite some time ago."
