Anyone visiting the coast this weekend should check the weather and tide times.
That's according to the RNLI who are advising people to take a mobile phone or radio device so that they can contact someone if they get into trouble on or near the water.
The Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland say that water temperatures can still be extremely cold this time of year and Cold Water Shock can affect everyone.
Speaking to RedFM News, RNLI Water Safety Lead Kevin Rahill, has this advice for people swimming in the sea:
"It's important to remember the sea temperatures are still very cold at this time of the year, so maybe considering wearing a wetsuit to stay warm. We'd also suggest to people they acclimatise slowly so getting in slowly, allow your body to adjust to the to the cold temperature. From the point of view of making yourself visible and being easily seen, we would recommend people wear a bright swimming cap; and we also suggest people don't swim alone and always ensure that there's somebody onshore keeping an eye on them".
