The RNLI in Cork is appealing to those heading to the beach over the coming days, not to park in a way which might obstruct emergency vehicles.
Thousands across Cork are expected to head to the seaside this weekend as Met Éireann issues a status yellow high temperature warning for the country from tomorrow.
There are 12 life-guarded beaches along Cork's coastline, and
Cork County Council and Water Safety Ireland are reminding bathers that lifeguards are on duty between half past ten in the morning and seven o'clock in the evening every day until the end of August.
Speaking to RedFM News, the RNLI's Water Safety Delivery Support Officer, Lisa Hollingham says parking thoughtfully could help save lives:
"Our lifeboat crew members are available 24/7 and they will go to anybody's rescue. And of course, in order for our crews to get to the lifeboat stations, we need access. So if people are heading to beaches or inland lakes or wherever they are, just to be conscious of where they're parking, that people can always make their way to the lifeboat station should the boat need to launch".
Anyone can call 999 or 112 and ask for the 'Coastguard' at any time to raise the alarm.
