Over half of children's car seats are fitted incorrectly according to the Road Safety Authority.

It comes as the RSA will provide a car seat fitting service in Supervalu's in Cork next week.

The "check it fits survey" showed that while over half of car seats were fitted incorrectly, 30 percent needed a major adjustment to assure the child was safe and secure. 67 percent of car seats had twisted seatbelts and loose fittings.

The RSA will be providing free of charge walk in appointments at Supervalu's in Cobh, Carrigaline and Fermoy on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of December.

Speaking to RedFM News Aisling Sloyan, Senior Road Safety Promotion Officer of the RSA says ensuring seatbelts are fitted correctly is the best way to ensure the childs safety:

"It's really important to make sure that your child sees is fitted correctly because if it's not specified as parent was crushed, tested, then it's not going to perform as a chose in the event of a collision or even heartbreaking. You know, if you break hard, we've also stuffed rock on the shoulder from Cisco. So what's the idea of ataxia is to reduce the movement of a child in that event. So therefore reducing the severity of students who are always in work."
