The Road Safety Authority says it's determined to reverse the rising upward trend in deaths on our roads
Increased penalty points for dangerous driving and a review of speed limits are all being examined in an effort to help reduce fatalities
10 people have lost their lives on Cork roads so far this year and nationally the death toll is up 45% on the same period in 2019
Chairwoman of the RSA Liz O'Donnell says the spike in road deaths has to be seen as a "wake up call"
Speaking to RedFM News she says the road safety message message needs to get through to all motorists:
"We are losing momentum in terms of reducing fatalities on our road. We were doing really well for a period of 10 years or so going down every year. But last year and this year, the trend is upwards. And that means we all have to as a society get together and kickstart. You know, our commitment is a communal societal commitment to reduce fatalities. And that's in the responsibility of the Government, of policing, of the Road Safety Authority and of every single individual motorist."
