Sarsfields Hurling Club says it will be later in the year before a match is played on its pitch.

Works expected to cost well over €1m have just begun to rebuild the clubhouse and pitches in Glanmire.

The GAA club opened its gates last October to save homes and businesses from being flooded after Storm Babet.

Speaking to RedFM News, Chairperson of Sars GAA club, Keith Mulcahy says the construction company rebuilding the club hopes it can be up and running by September:

"At the moment we're looking at later 2024, realistically speaking we're looking at late September or early October. Hourihan's told us we might be able to play in September and work has begun on the astro pitch today so we're hoping that will be ready mid-February, that's the plan anyway."
