The Tánaiste has opened an Emergency Humanitarian Support Scheme for small businesses affected by recent flooding in Cork city and Wexford.
Last month some businesses were hit twice by flooding in just three days as Cork was hit by heavy rain.
The Council activaited two major clean-up operations last month after more than 55 mm of rain fall across the city on one day - nearly four times the 15mm predicted in the weather warning issued.
The Furniture Centre Blackpool and a number of premises in Turners Crossand along Douglas Street were among the businesses whose premises were damaged by flood waters.
Tanaiste Leo Vardakar says the support scheme will help businesses, sports clubs and community groups who were unable to secure flood insurance.
"When it comes to businesses, it's targeted at small businesses, those with 20 employees or less, also sports clubs and community volunteer organisations.
"In the first stage, there'll be a contribution of €5000 depending on the scale of the damage incurred, and we think that'll meet the needs for the majority of people affected.
"In the event that the damage to the premises is above €5000, thhe business can then apply for additional help from the Red Cross and the maximum amount possible that you can that you can get is €20,000, so it's small thing but hopefully it'll help some of those businesses and organisations that were affected by the floods recently."
