A scheme to help passengers with disabilities to use public transport on their own is to be introduced in Cork.
That's according to today's Irish Examiner.
Bus Éireann's 'Travel Assistance Scheme' has been in Dublin for more than a decade, and is free to anyone over 18.
Cork is the first city outside Dublin to trial the scheme.
A travel assistant can help the service-user, who has with a disability or mobility issue, plan their bus route and then accompanies them on their first few journeys.
It is hoped that the scheme will be introduced by the middle of this year.
Bus Éireann are currently recruiting two people to work on the programme in Cork.
Furthermore, the National Transport Authority has promised 12.5 million euro to make bus stops and stations more accessible to all.
