Schools and colleges in seven counties under a Red or Orange alert under Storm Eunice are to close tomorrow. This will impact Cork, Kerry, Donegal, Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon.

Cork and Kerry are under a status Red alert while the others have an Orange Snow and Wind warning.

Snow is expected to combine with strong winds to create 'blizzard conditions' in Donegal, Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon.

A meeting of the National Emergency Co-ordination Group is taking place ahead of the arrival of Storm Eunice tomorrow.

Gusts in excess of 130kmph are expected at times and a status Orange warning will be in place until 11am.

Head of the National Directorate for Emergency Management is Keith Leonard:

"Storm Eunice is going to be a high impact multi-hazard storm, bringing coastal flooding, damaging wind and blizzard conditions. The storm will track quickly across the country tomorrow morning, causing significant disruption with power outages and trees down in many areas. Red warnings have been issued for Cork and Kerry and people in these counties are advised to stay indoors for the duration of the storm."
