Security specialists are warning that government and business need to be on alert for a growing threat of cyber crime.
Russian hackers have targetted Ireland before and there are fears Russia's invasion of Ukraine may spark more cyber attacks on the West.
David McNamara from CommSec says there are plenty of ways to protect your systems, like checking that links are really what they seem to be.
"Sometimes it's masked, but when you hover over a link, you can actually see that it's got a different email format or web address. multi factor authentication is another where you know, you put a second form of authentication in or a third form, and the others just patching systems it's fairly simple. Like it's good housekeeping that other companies can do."
