The Irish Examiner reports there are fears the construction industry won't be able to keep up with demand.

The Southern Region Construction Summit is expected to hear today that the city needs 77 Elysian Towers over the next 11 years to meet housing demand.

The Construction Industry Federation says just 732 new homes were built in the city last year.

They are also calling on the government to address so called soft costs such as levies, taxes and fees which can make up over 30% of the price of a new home.

Project Ireland 2040 expects the population of Cork city and suburbs to grow by 125,000 over the next 20 years.
