Sexual Violence Centre founder says she hopes changing people's thinking about victim blaming will be her legacy

Mary Crilly was speaking ahead of a civic reception at City Hall this evening on International Women's Day to mark 40 years since the centre was established.

Originally set up to provide support to victims of sexual violence in court in 1983, the centre has gone on to provide one on one counselling for over 10,000 people and provided support for thousands of others who have contacted on behalf of someone else.

The group have highlighted issues such as stalking, the sharing of intimate images and went viral with their thought provoking “How to avoid sexual assault- a quick and easy guide for perpetrators” post in 2021.

Speaking to RedFM News, Mary Crilly says tonight’s event is as much about acknowledging victims as is it about recognising the work of the centre:
