Hundreds of secondary school students from across the city will be collecting for the annual SHARE appeal from today until Christmas Eve.
Students will be wearing the familiar yellow jackets to raise funds and awareness of the isolation felt by many vulnerable elderly people.
The charity has been caring for the elderly in the region for over 50 years and currently houses 127 elderly and vulnerable people around Cork.
All proceeds collected will be used to support that work.
Speaking to RedFM News, 5th year student at Presentation Brothers College- and Chair of the charity- Ronan McAuliffe explains the thinking behind this years’ collection.
"It's really to raise awareness among young people that it could be the person down the road, it could be your grandparents, it could be someone you know that could be isolated.
"Our slogan is 'Say Hello To Someone You Know', it's really just about saying hello to people, 'hello can I help you with anything?', simple things that brighten up people's day, brighten up people's lives, and those things can make a big impact."
