The Simon Communities say hidden homelessness is a bigger problem than first realised as these people remain largely unseen by traditional services.

Hidden homelessness impacts 30,000 households in Ireland and leaves individuals and families without access to the vital supports they need.

Simon says solutions need to be found to address the problem and bring those who are sofa surfing or living in precarious housing situations out of the shadows and into safety.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork Simon's Sophie Johnston says their services are under pressure to cope with the existing need:

"Numbers relying on our emergency shelter are going up and up also the number of people stuck in our emergency shelter because they cannot move on to a home is increasing. People are becoming stuck in emergency accommodation for want of a home."
