The Minister for Employment says the development of over 1,300 new homes on the Docklands will bring new high paying jobs into the city.
Simon Coveney was speaking in the city today where he welcomed plans by O'Callaghan Properties to develop the homes at the former Goulding’s site.
It’s the largest housing development that Cork City Council has given the green light to and the complex on Centre Park Road and Monahan Road will also have cafés and shops.
Speaking to RedFM News, Minister Simon Coveney says the re-development of the Docklands will be a major boost for the local economy.
"We want a lot more people living in the city. We want high quality, affordable apartments both to buy and rent in Cork city centre. And I think the Docklands can provide a lot of that in the years ahead so you know, seeing another planning permission granted, which hopefully will result in breaking ground on that project soon, I think it's very positive for the city."
