SIPTU says further solutions are needed to address staffing issues in the home care sector
The comments follow the announcement by the Health Minister that State-funded home support providers will receive an increase in funding in order to pay workers the living wage,
The union says this move will not fully address issues in the sector and falls short of what is needed to effectively tackle the current recruitment and retention issues faced by home support services.
It's emerged that over 1200 people in Cork are on a waiting list for home care support assistants with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare citing retirements and resignations as one of the reasons for the long waiting list
