SIPTU says Government policy on housing is not enough to tackle the accommodation crisis in Cork
The comments come as a banner is being unveiled at Connolly Hall around now to highlight a public rally planned for next month in Cork by the Raise the Roof campaign
Raise the Roof is a trade union led campaign network which comprises a wide range of civil society bodies and political parties who are seeking a radical change in housing policy to ensure the delivery of secure and affordable homes for all
Speaking to RedFM News SIPTU's Adrian Kane says the Government response to the housing crisis is simply not enough
"There is nobody untouched by this. In looking at people in tents around the city, at people who are overcrowded. I mean, this is a university town, students can't get accommodation. There is a crisis. And I'm not saying that this rally is going to resolve it overnight, and there are measures that the government are taking that are welcome. But it is not enough. The last two initiatives do nothing in terms of meeting the needs of people, in terms of lifting the eviction ban or reducing development levies".
The Raise the Roof Rally will take place in Cork on Saturday June 10th next
