Six inmates at Cork Prison will be unlocked from their cells at 4am tomorrow morning to take part in Darkness Into Light
The event raises vital funds for Pieta which supports people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm
Cork Prison is one of the more unique locations as it is a closed prison and the unlocking of the prisoners at night time will see a low key security operation
Speaking to RedFM News Assistant Prison Governor Brian McCarthy says there is huge enthusiasm for the event at the prison
"The only difference to running this event to any other event here is the fact that we're on locking prisoners at four o'clock in the morning. For that we have one or two very small security but there'll be no security issues whatsoever. The fact that we're unlocking prisoners at night time, in a secure prison is a very unique thing and this would be the first time such an event will have happened within a closed prison"
