A sliotar has been found inside the historic Mangan's clock as restoration work begins
Philip Stokes of Stokes Clock and Watches removed the sliotar from the internal works of the clock which has stood on Patrick Street since the 1850s.
He told the Irish Examiner that the ball made a hole in a panel on the dial between 12 and 1 and rain was getting in so some damage has been caused internally
As part of the restoration works, several of the clocks internal gears have been removed for measuring, repair and restoration. The clock hands have also been removed for repairs.
The restoration project is expected to take three months
