Tenants and homeowners are overburdened with housing costs, according to Social Justice Ireland.
It's National Social Monitor out today shows there's a high cost of accommodation generally across the country.
Almost one in ten renters in Ireland have a high level of housing cost, which takes more than 40% of their disposable income.
Social Justice Ireland Research and Policy Analyst, Suzanne Rodgers, says the hike in the cost for those renting at the lowest rate is a real worry.
"There's an increasing number of households who are in a reduced rent bracket who are experiencing a housing cost overburden.
"It's a worry, because if you're already in a subsidised rent situation strictly speaking that should be the lowest rent that is possible for any household to pay, and if you're in a situation where your rent is subsidised you're already on a low income."
