The sod has been turned on a €9 million infrastructure project which will enable the delivery of 750 homes in Ballyvolane.
The houses, which will be built across six new neighbourhoods, are being delivered by the Housing Infrastructure Services Company.
The company is a commercial joint venture between the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund and Cork County Council to build supporting infrastructure for housing.
The unique aspect of HISCo’s Model is that the fee is calculated on a per unit basis and is only payable as each unit is sold or first leased.
Speaking at the sod turning ceremony, the Tánaiste says the project is one of the largest housing developments to ever commence in the history of Cork City.
