A soldier charged in connection with the seizure of over €25,000 worth of cocaine at Collins Barracks in the city is due in court again in January.
34-year-old Shane Scanlon of Cooline Heights, Ballyvoloon, Cobh appeared at Cork District Court today.
Today’s sitting heard there are no DPP directions in the case, which dates back to March last.
Defence solicitor, Frank Buttimer, described the delay as ‘unacceptable’ and pointed out his client has been under strict bail conditions since March.
Mr. Buttimer asked how much “indulgence” the DPP requires.
Judge Mary Dorgan said the required forensic analysis has not yet been returned, and remanded Scanlon on continuing bail until the 13th of January.
Shane Scanlon was present in court, and did not speak during the brief hearing.
He stands charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of selling it or supplying it to another on March 27th last.
He's also charged with having cocaine for his own use.
