Some learner drivers in Cork are waiting up to 8 months to take their driving test.
More than 24,000 driving tests were conducted across the county last year according to the CSO.
Wilton has the lowest pass rate in Cork at 44%.
Speaking to Red FM News, Cork Driving Instructor Darren Mullane says the standard of driving has dropped because learner drivers can't afford extra lessons during the wait for a test:
"Now I have young people and learner drivers finishing their driving lessons, their twelve compulsory lessons, and waiting up to 8 months for a driving test. and now, obviously they can't afford to continue on taking lessons in that 8 month period, so their standard of driving is dropping."
