That's according to Cork housing charity Threshold who say they dealt with 494 cases of substandard accommodation in 2020 and 258 cases so far this year.
The most common issues include mould caused by poor ventilation, infestations caused by structural issues and broken heating systems.
Speaking to RedFM News, Edel Conlon from Threshold says good communication is key to avoiding problems with rental accommodation:
"It's important that tenants feel, you know, comfortable and approaching their landlords to get these issues solved, and I'm sure that landlords also want to be made aware of these issues in their properties so they are given the opportunity to rectify them, and you know to keep the property in good condition. So we always advise our tenants to rise to their landlords and inform them of the standard and repair issues that they're experiencing in their property, landlords then should carry out the repairs in a prompt manner."
