A special school principal says the pilot to restore therapists to classrooms needs to go ahead before more schools are added to the scheme.
The first phase of the scheme included 4 special schools in Cork but no therapists have been assigned yet.
10 additional schools to receive occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists will be announced this week.
Speaking to RedFM News, Principal of St.Paul’s Special School in Montenotte, Anne Hartnett says although every special school needs the scheme, schools in the pilot need to see therapists first:
"Those 10 schools and every other school in the country aren't missing out on anything at the moment. We have had nothing really since 2018. I would have thought they would have tried to get it right with the initial 6 schools and look at any teething problems that we would have and then roll it out, so it wouldn't be as stressful for the next round of schools that's going to get it."
